School Budget Information

Dr. Frank Sippy, Region 15 Superintendent, presented his recommended 2010/2011 School budget at the Board of Education Meeting last night.  It was televised live, and will be looping on the local channel (usually channel 17) over the next week.  A copy of the budget is attached, for your reference. 

Key points:

• Dr. Sippy is recommending a +2.15% increase next year.
• -$1.1 million in cuts to the current budget were included (retirement incentive, maintenance equipment, medical savings, transportation, energy & supplies).
• +$327,000 in improvements were included (including beginning world language in 6^th grade vs. 7^th, and maintaining 4 elementary school guidance counselors, as two positions were cut last year but remained because of grant monies).

The attached presentation gives more details.  There will be two Board of Education Workshops this month (Thursday, March 11^th from 7:30-9pm and Wednesday, March 24^th from 7-9PM).  These meetings will not be televised.  The BOE will ask more detailed questions at these meetings, and the citizens (made up of both parents and local residents) will have the opportunity to express their thoughts.  The Board members will base their decisions on what their constituents want, so I urge you to attend these meetings and express your opinion.  We must be advocates for our children.

The final budget will be accepted by the BOE on April 12^th, and the Referendum will take place on May 5^th.
